Cameron Murray hit a 12-foot jumper with 2.6 seconds left Monday night to give USC an 80-78 victory over Pennsylvania.

After the Trojans gained possession on a tie-up with six seconds left, Murray came around a double screen and hit his game-winning shot.

“We wanted to isolate Cameron because he had penetrated so well,” USC Coach Charlie Parker said. “It’s a good play for us because [Murray] makes good decisions when he drives to the basket and he normally makes that pull-up shot very well.”

Jaha Wilson led USC (2-0) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Trojans had four players score in double figures and shot 51% from the floor after shooting only 37% in their season-opening victory over Lamar.

“Offensively, we shot the ball very well and we were able to handle their different defensive looks,” Parker said. “But the best thing about the win was how we kept our composure down the stretch, something we did not do too well last season.”

USC had taken a 78-75 lead on a jumper by Stais Boseman with 57 seconds remaining, but Penn’s Tim Krug hit a three-point shot 14 seconds later--setting the stage for Murray.

Ira Bowman had 24 points and 10 assists and Krug had 22 points for Penn, which was playing its season opener. The Quakers lost all five starters from last season’s Ivy League championship team.

Brandon Martin had 17 points and Boseman 16 for USC, which managed just one road victory in going 7-21 last season.

The Trojans played without center Avondre Jones, who had 16 points against Lamar. Jones did not accompany the team due to a personal matter and is expected to be at practice today.
