NBA ROUNDUP : Zidek, Geiger Help Hornets Contain Ewing, Beat Knicks

Charlotte reserve center Matt Geiger scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter, helped hold New York’s Patrick Ewing to one basket in the second half and the Charlotte Hornets won their fourth consecutive game, 115-105, Wednesday night at Charlotte.

Rookie center George Zidek got off to a good start against Ewing, making three hook shots and helping the Hornets to a 27-24 lead after the first quarter.

Larry Johnson and Glen Rice each scored 25 points for the Hornets, who have won seven of their last nine against the Knicks.

With the score tied at 93-93, Geiger scored four consecutive points. His slam dunk put the Hornets up for good and he followed that with two free throws.

Ewing, shooting only five for 17, missed a short jumper and Rice sealed the Hornets’ victory with two free throws with 52.9 seconds remaining, putting Charlotte ahead 110-101.

Boston 100, Detroit 96--Rick Fox made two free throws with 10.4 seconds left, then tipped an offensive rebound to center court to set up two clinching free throws by Dee Brown at Boston.

Dino Radja led the Celtics with 29 points and 15 rebounds.

Portland 112, Golden State 98--The Trail Blazers made a team-record 13 three-pointers (attempting 23) in winning at Oakland.

Atlanta 106, Philadelphia 81--Ken Norman scored 15 points to lead six Hawks in double figures at Atlanta.
