ANAHEIM : City Will Disclose Workers’ Earnings
In a move to create more openness in city government, the City Council this week ordered the disclosure on an annual basis of salary and benefit packages for every full-time employee.
The unanimous decision, which follows a recommendation of the city-appointed Budget Advisory Commission, requires that compensation figures be released by no later than March 31 for the previous calendar year.
Mayor Tom Daly said the disclosure policy reflects a “very healthy trend” in government. Councilman Frank Feldhaus suggested that the financial details about salaries and benefits be posted on Anaheim’s Internet site on the World Wide Web.
Once the compensation figures are released, the Budget Advisory Commission will examine how the salaries and benefits compare to those in the private sector to see if adjustments are needed.
The move follows a request by The Times Orange County under the California Public Records Act to provide salary and benefits on the city’s top paid workers.
