NHL ROUNDUP : Roy Records First Victory for Avalanche

Patrick Roy made 30 saves, several of the spectacular variety, and registered his first victory with his new team as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-1, Monday night at Toronto.

Craig Wolanin, Adam Deadmarsh, Joe Sakic, Stephane Yelle and Valeri Kamensky scored for Colorado.

New York Rangers 3, Dallas 2--Mark Messier’s second goal of the game with 6:30 left gave New York the victory, extending the Rangers’ home unbeaten streak to 13 games.

Messier, who had scored the game’s first goal in the opening period, clinched the victory when he beat Darcy Wakaluk from the low slot. The puck was out there for Messier after Alexei Kovalev’s shot bounced off a pile of players in front.

Florida 2, New Jersey 1--Mike Hough stole a puck behind the goal line to set up Radek Dvorak’s game-winning goal with 10:25 to play at East Rutherford, N.J.

Tampa Bay 6, Buffalo 1--Jeff Reese stopped 21 shots and Tampa Bay scored three times in the second period of a game at Buffalo postponed from Sunday because of snow.

Shawn Burr, Rob Zamuner, Enrico Ciccone, Brian Bellows, Paul Ysebaert and Chris Gratton scored for Tampa Bay. The Lightning have won eight of their last 11.
