NBA ROUNDUP : Rockets Pound Kings to Earn 133-93 Victory

Hakeem Olajuwon had 31 points and 15 rebounds, and the Houston Rockets handed the Kings their worst loss since arriving in Sacramento in 1985 with a 133-93 pounding.

The Rockets had a 45-37 advantage before scoring the final 14 points of the second half for a 59-37 lead.

Robert Horry then scored 17 of his 20 points in the third quarter as Houston outscored the Kings, 42-28, for a 101-65 lead.

Dallas 112, Seattle 101--Tony Dumas came off the bench to score a career-high 35 points and lead the Mavericks back from a 17-point deficit to upend the Supersonics in overtime at Dallas.

Dumas’ 35 points tied the Dallas club mark for points from a substitute. Jason Kidd had a career-high 18 assists to tie Derek Harper’s Dallas club record.

Golden State 105, Miami 80--Chris Mullin, a reserve for the first time this season, hit six three-point shots and scored a season-high 26 points as the Warriors overpowered the Heat in Oakland.

The Heat played without injured front-liners Alonzo Mourning and Billy Owens and lost Coach Pat Riley early in the fourth quarter after he picked up his second technical foul.

After Cliff Rozier’s lay-in for the Warriors made it 89-66 to open the fourth, Riley ran onto the court to protest a foul call with 10:30 remaining and was ejected.

Orlando 101, New Jersey 97--Nick Anderson scored 29 points and the Magic limited the Nets to three fourth-quarter field goals in handing New Jersey its first home loss of the season.

The win was the fourth in a row and 17th in 21 games for Orlando, which has posted the second-best record in the league despite having Shaquille O’Neal sidelined all season with a broken thumb. He’s due back Friday.

Charlotte 115, Phoenix 100--Glen Rice made his first eight shots and had 31 of his 33 points in the first three quarters in Phoenix and the Hornets broke out of a road slump with a win over the Suns.

Indiana 125, Denver 92--Reserve Antonio Davis matched a career high with 26 points and Reggie Miller had 23 in pushing the Pacers past the Nuggets at Indianapolis.

Minnesota 85, Atlanta 78--Isaiah Rider scored 20 points, six of them in the final 2:49, as the Timberwolves won at the Omni for the first time and ended an eight-game losing streak to the Hawks.

Boston 116, Toronto 96--Dee Brown had 20 points and 10 assists leading the Celtics to their third consecutive road win.

Washington 108, Milwaukee 102--Chris Webber, who sat out the last game while resting a sore left shoulder, had 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Bullets held off the Bucks in Landover, Md.

NBA Notes

Following a series of injuries to frontcourt players including center Alonzo Mourning, the Miami Heat signed free agent Danny Schayes. Schayes, 36, is a 14-year NBA veteran who played in 69 games for the Phoenix Suns last season, averaging 4.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 12 minutes. . . .Veteran point guard Scott Skiles signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
