Garden Grove Driver Dies in Race With 2nd Vehicle
GARDEN GROVE — A 24-year-old man died Monday after he lost control of his car while racing with another vehicle and crashed into a parked truck, police said.
Nghia Luong of Garden Grove was speeding down Chapman Avenue while trying to outrun another driver about 2:10 a.m. when he lost control of his 1996 Acura Integra and rear-ended a Chevy Blazer, Police Sgt. Andy Jaunch said.
Police believe Luong was traveling around 50 mph when he hit the unoccupied truck parked along Chapman west of Gilbert Street.
Luong, who suffered major head injuries, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died.
The other driver was unidentified and not involved in the wreck, officials said.
Police don’t know whether Luong knew the other driver, Sgt. Paul McInerny said.
“I’m sure the investigators would love to talk to the other driver,” McInerny said.
The investigation is continuing.
