NFL Star, Announcer DeRogatis Dies

NEPTUNE, N.J. — Al DeRogatis, a star lineman for the New York Giants from 1949-52 who became a radio and television sportscaster, died Tuesday. He was 68.
DeRogatis, who lived in Spring Lake, died of cancer at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
He was drafted by the Giants out of Duke and played in the Pro Bowl in 1951 and 1952. A recurring knee injury ended his NFL career at 25.
In 1960, he began his broadcasting career for WNEW Radio, covering Giants games. After six years on the radio, he worked alongside Curt Gowdy on NBC, televising the NFL Game of the Week.
DeRogatis was a vice president with Prudential Insurance Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1985.
He is survived by wife Louise, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters and five grandchildren.
