Turner Business Network to Debut: Turner Broadcasting System Inc., operator of the 24-hour international news network CNN, said it will launch its new business channel, CNNfn, today. The financial network will be aimed at a broader audience than existing business news channels, such as General Electric’s CNBC, said Karen Kent, CNNfn spokeswoman. The network’s programs will concentrate on stock, bond and commodity information at the open and close of markets. Time slots in between will strive to attract a typical soap opera watcher, she said. By differentiating its news from established offerings, the network hopes to find a spot on crowded cable systems. So far, cable systems have been cool to the idea of carrying CNNfn. At its outset, the network will be available over satellite and cable networks to 5.5 million subscribers.
