Vladimir Zhirinovsky

Re “Communists Lead Crowded Field in Russian Elections,” Dec. 18:

In the recent Russian elections, the party which captured the single greatest bloc of votes was the Communist Party. Following second was the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of right-wing zealot Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

However, Zhirinovsky is neither a liberal nor a democrat. He is a right-wing, ultranationalist fascist. One could tack on that he is a racist, a bigot and is anti-Semitic. There is nothing salient, positive or redeeming about the message or the politics of Zhirinovsky.

Zhirinovsky is a threat not only to his own people, but to the region and to Europe. The United States and Europe should recognize the danger posed by him. Every possible step must be taken to discredit Zhirinovsky.

The ultranationalist movement is the greatest threat to peace in 50 years. The worst symbol and banner carrier of this movement is Zhirinovsky. The movement must be stopped and he must be stopped.
