Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Thursday followed a trail of blood from a Jeep abandoned by the side of a rural road to the body of woman in the brush below who had been shot in the head.

The woman was not identified late Thursday. She was found about 5:40 a.m. by deputies who spotted the Jeep with Georgia license plates beside Kanan Dume Road about two miles south of Mulholland Highway, Deputy Matt Bailey said. They followed blood spots from the Jeep to the woman’s body below.

About a mile from the Jeep deputies found a piece of carpet and bloody clothes in a trash can, but it was not known if they were connected to the woman’s remains, Bailey said.
