Duck update--Coach Ron Wilson continues to bemoan the Ducks’ apparent willingness to fold at the first hint of adversity. They are 6-7-1 when they score first, but 7-15-2 when the opponents do. Hoping to send a message to his players after a 7-1 loss to the Kings extended the Ducks’ losing streak to five, Wilson had the team perform skating drills for most of Thursday’s practice. Rookie Chad Kilger injured his groin Wednesday and might not play tonight. Paul Kariya’s six-game point streak was ended by the Kings.

Shark update--They are tied with the Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders for the fewest wins in the league. Half of the Sharks’ eight victories have come in the last 10 games, including a 7-4 rout of the Ducks Dec. 19 at The Pond. Owen Nolan had the first four-goal game in Shark history that night. The Sharks are 5-6 since firing Coach Kevin Constantine and replacing him with Jim Wiley on Dec. 2. Center Craig Janney leads San Jose with 31 assists and 37 points. Defenseman Tom Pederson is on the injured reserve list because of a sore neck.
