BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Palmdale Girls Enjoy Rose-Colored Victory

Center Kristi Rose scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Palmdale High girls to a 63-44 upset of Crescenta Valley in the quarterfinals of the Thousand Oaks tournament Thursday night at Thousand Oaks High.

Rose, a 6-foot-4 senior, was one of three Palmdale players to reach double figures in her team’s balanced attack. Casey Bledsoe added 13 points, while Marjorie Knott contributed 12. Monique Nolan and Edniesha Curry had nine and eight points for Palmdale (11-2), ranked fourth in the region by The Times.

Crescenta Valley (12-1), ranked No. 2 in The Times’ regional poll, received 17 points, including 11 in the second half, from Michelle Greco.

In other Thousand Oaks tournament games:

Thousand Oaks 70, Santa Barbara 41--Jenn Detmer and Nicole Woodruff each scored 15 points for the Lancers (10-3) in a quarterfinal game. Thousand Oaks took advantage of 17 second-half turnovers by Santa Barbara (4-6).

Bakersfield South 44, Village Christian 43--Lindy James scored 18 points and had six rebounds as Village Christian (5-6) rallied from a five-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime before falling in the seventh-place semifinal game.

James tallied 10 of her points in the fourth period to spark the comeback by Village Christian.

Westlake 44, Agoura 41--Senior Megan Carmola scored 29 points to carry Westlake (5-7) to an overtime victory in a consolation game.

Kristin DeSimone led Agoura with 22 points.

Santa Maria 57, Channel Islands 44--Liz Hernandez scored 16 points and Elenor Ecoffey had nine for Channel Islands (0-14), but the Raiders fell in a consolation game.
