Laguna Hills 55, Marina 42--Coach Lynn Taylor called it the biggest victory in the program’s history as eighth-ranked Laguna Hills (9-10) stunned No. 6 Marina (11-1) behind Tayyiba Haneef’s 23-point, 13-rebound effort. The 6-foot-6 center, who scored repeatedly from the inside, was complemented by Tamara Inoue’s 17 points as the Hawks beat for the first time a team ranked as high as sixth.

“This is all new to us, beating teams in the top 10,” said Taylor, whose team beat seventh-ranked El Dorado in the first round. “Every time we play somebody [who is] tough, everybody plays better. This team isn’t afraid of people.”

Marina had won 16 of its last 17 games dating to last year. The Vikings were led by Kirsten Cappel (15 points) and Marisa Emde (12).

Fountain Valley 53, Kent (Wash.) Meridian 45--The second-ranked Barons (13-1) trailed by eight in the third quarter, but outscored Meridian (5-1) 23-11 in the fourth. Nicole Strange scored 10 of her 21 points in that stretch.

Ocean View 50, Redmond (Wash.) Eastlake 49--Andrea Tuiolosega (four points) made two free throws with four seconds left to lift Ocean View (9-3), which trailed by four going into the fourth quarter. Becky Fraser scored 16 for the Seahawks and Jennifer Tuiolosega had 15.

In the Cavalier Classic:

Canyon 45, El Toro 44--Megan O’Neal and Jenny Fulbright each scored 13 points to lead Canyon (7-6) in a semifinal game.

The Comanches play Santiago in the semifinals today at 5 p.m.

In the Costa Mesa tournament:

Woodbridge 70, Capistrano Valley 40--Melanie Pearson scored 23 points and Krissy Duperron scored 22 as Woodbridge defeated Capistrano Valley (6-4) in the quarterfinals.

In the Laguna Beach tournament:

Century 42, Irvine 29--Alli Napier scored 15 points and Aprile Powell had 12 for ninth-ranked Century (10-1), which outscored Irvine, 18-1, over the final 11 minutes.

In the Righetti tournament:

University 48, Lompoc Cabrillo 40--Monique Mathews scored 27 points and had 18 rebounds to lead University (7-3) in a first-round game. The Trojans play the winner of Santa Maria Righetti-Pacifica in the semifinals tonight at 8.

In the Santiago tournament:

Sonora 40, Rancho Alamitos 37--Aiyana Nash scored more than half of Sonora’s points with 28 to help the Raiders advance to the semifinals. Nash, who is one of the county’s leading scorers, had four three-pointers and six steals in the second round game. Sonora (9-3) will play Corona del Mar today at 8 p.m.

In the Ontario Christian boys’ soccer tournament:

Orange Lutheran 3, Covina Western Christian 2 (2 OT)--Patrick Chollet-Guibert, on an assist by Eric Van De Zilver, scored the winning goal for Orange Lutheran with 10 seconds left in double overtime of the third-place game.

Jeff Mangles and Van De Zilver scored the other two goals for Orange Lutheran (9-2-3).

In the Orange tournament:

Fountain Valley 2, Foothill 1--Keith Hedenberg scored his ninth goal of the season and Nick Tolman had a goal and an assist for eighth-ranked Fountain Valley (7-2), which plays Orange in the semifinals at 5 p.m. today.

Santa Ana 1, Santa Margarita 0--Juan Reyes beat two defenders and scored in the 30th minute to give top-ranked Santa Ana the victory over No. 3 Santa Margarita. Goalkeeper Ed Contreras stopped seven shots for Santa Ana (9-0).

In the Ocean View girls’ soccer tournament:

Mater Dei 2, El Toro 0--Sara Stratton and Katie Ticehurst each had second-half goals as Mater Dei defeated El Toro (6-8) in a semifinal game. Amanda Fox had two saves in the shutout for the Monarchs.

Mater Dei (8-3-1) plays La Crescenta Crescenta Valley in the finals today at 1 p.m. at Ocean View High School.

El Toro 1, Laguna Hills 1 (El Toro wins in shootout 4-3)--Sara Brochel scored the winning goal in the shootout as El Toro upset Laguna Hills (10-1-2). Stacey Roberson scored a second-half goal to tie the game for Chargers.

El Toro plays Arcadia in the third-place game today at 11 a.m.
