Earlier in the week, the Indiana Pacers gave the rest of the NBA hope by showing that the Chicago Bulls could be beaten.

When the teams met again Friday night, the Bulls were determined to show that the situation was still hopeless. With Ron Harper playing the unlikely hero, neutralizing Reggie Miller and making two three-point shots that broke open a close game, the Bulls rolled to a 120-93 victory at Chicago.

Michael Jordan scored 29 points and Scottie Pippen added 23.

Miller, who came in averaging 21 points, had only 14.

Washington 127, New York 120--Robert Pack scored nine of his 25 points in overtime as the Bullets, taking advantage of the absence of Patrick Ewing, ended a 15-game losing streak against the Knicks with a victory at Landover, Md.

Anthony Mason led the Knicks with 30 points.

Juwan Howard had 27 points for the Bullets.

Webber left the game in overtime because of a strained left shoulder. Ewing was sidelined because of a sprained right ankle.

Charlotte 102, Portland 99--Kendall Gill scored 18 points and blocked a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer and Scott Burrell missed two free throws with 5.7 seconds left that would have iced the game for Charlotte.

Burrell led the Hornets with 20 points. Clifford Robinson had 26 for the Trail Blazers.

Golden State 117, Atlanta 96--Latrell Sprewell scored 32 points and Joe Smith added 22 in the game at Atlanta.

NBA Notes

Sacramento King forward Michael Smith was jailed by police on suspicion of public drunkenness Friday, then released after about six hours without being cited, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. . . . The Golden State Warriors and Oakland officials hope to soon announce a long-term deal to keep the team in the city, negotiators for both sides said. The latest plan calls for the arena to be ready for the 1997, one year ahead of timetables set by earlier renovation plans.
