Sales Figures Fall for December, Redbook Report Says: Sales for the month fell 0.6% compared with November, Johnson Redbook service said. The results are better than some analysts had predicted. “With the exception of Sears, most of the major publicly owned retailers probably did not achieve their December sales objectives,” the report says. Most U.S. retailers Thursday will report individual December sales for stores open at least a year. Sales in the last week of December rose 13.2% from a year ago, helped by deep after-Christmas markdowns.
