SPEEDING BULLET: It’s a bird! It’s a plane! . . . It’s a roller coaster! It’s “Superman: The Escape,” a Six Flags Magic Mountain ride that will be the world’s tallest and fastest coaster when it opens at the Valencia theme park in May (B1). Riders will reach 100 mph in seven seconds, before soaring up a 415-foot tower for 6.5 seconds of weightlessness. . . . “This is a quantum leap over anything that’s out there,” said Paul L. Ruben, editor of Park World magazine.
GRAMMYS: It’s been another good year for All-4-One. The Antelope Valley R&B; quartet got two Grammy Award nominations Thursday--Pop Performance by a Group for their hit, “I Can Love You Like That,” and R&B; Performance by a Group for “I’m Your Man.” . . . The awards will be presented Feb. 28. Full coverage in Calendar.
HEARING DELAY: Surrounded by friends and supporters, Salle Dumm , above, made her first court appearance Thursday since being accused of having sex with a 17-year-old Burbank High School football player. . . . A preliminary hearing was rescheduled for Feb. 1 after Dumm’s attorney said he hadn’t had enough time to review the prosecution’s evidence.
VIRTUAL VALLEY: Homesick on the Internet? Then visit the West Valley Web, a kind of virtual town hall where visitors can exchange e-mail addresses and opinions. . . . Located at https://www.west.net/~rdg/wvw.html, the 4-month-old site also offers links to Valley-based businesses, organizations and computer users.
OUTDOOR INDOOR: Elsewhere in cyberspace, Adventure Sports Online offers information on biking, hiking and climbing via the World Wide Web (C8). . . . Veteran Glendale cyclist Bill Collier says the Internet is useful but won’t replace magazines as a resource for outdoor enthusiasts. “In a sense, it’s another avenue for them to go to,” he said.
