CoCensys Deals to Fund Research
IRVINE — CoCensys Inc. said it lined up another drug marketing deal in hopes of making money to help fund its research program.
The marketer of treatments for psychiatric and neurological disorders said it agreed with Tampa-based Somerset Pharmaceuticals to co-market Somerset’s treatment for Parkinson’s disease. The disease, a crippling neurological disorder, causes impaired movement, tremors and other problems.
CoCensys aims to use profit on sales of the drug Eldepryl to support its development of treatments for epilepsy, sleep problems, stroke and head trauma. It has similar marketing agreements for other drugs with Warner-Lambert Co., of Morris Plains, N.J., and Ciba-Geigy Ltd., of Switzerland.
