Youths to Perform With Symphony
Some of Ventura County’s top young musicians will team up with the New West Symphony on Saturday for a special concert at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks.
The Microsoft Discovery Artists Concert will begin with a jazz fest at 7 p.m. featuring jazz ensembles from Oxnard, Camarillo and Newbury Park high schools, and Simi Valley’s Sequoia Junior High.
At 8 p.m., four young Ventura County soloists will perform classical music with backing from the New West Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Boris Brott.
The featured performers are 15-year-old pianist Eric Cheung, 18-year-old cellist Giovanna Moraga, 18-year-old oboe player Jeffrey Paul II and 17-year-old violinist Clifford Wang.
Microsoft, which contributed $10,000, is the event’s chief sponsor. The company also donated 25 software packages, which will be awarded to audience members during a drawing before the concert.
Tickets cost $5 for students, and a family pack of up to six tickets may be purchased for $25. Premier seats cost $15 apiece. For information, call 643-8646.
