San Gabriel Valley : City Council Vacancy Filled by Attorney
Attorney Edwin G. Shuck Jr. officially became a member of the Bradbury City Council on Wednesday in a ceremony at City Hall.
The City Council on Monday appointed Shuck, a 51-year-old tax lawyer, to the Bradbury Estates district seat vacated by Councilman John H. Richards four months before the end of his third term.
“I’ve always wanted to give some public service back to the community,” Shuck said. “I plan to run for election to the seat in April.”
Richards, a Caltech molecular biologist and former mayor, resigned from the council Monday. In November, he said he had meetings out of town that conflicted with the council sessions and did not plan to seek reelection.
Shuck is also president of the Bradbury Estates Homeowners Assn. and headed a successful effort to establish an estates assessment district at the ballot box last November to pay for the gated community’s guards and roads.
