Nation IN BRIEF : MARYLAND : ABA Report Finds Bias Against Women
Female students and faculty still face significant barriers and bias at many law schools, where female students are still sometimes referred to as “sweetie” or “baby” and female professors are often promoted and paid less than their male colleagues, the American Bar Assn. reported. While women now represent about 44% of students entering law school--a fivefold increase since 1970--women have yet to break through in significant numbers to the highest echelons of legal education, the ABA said in its report, released at the organization’s midwinter meeting in Baltimore. Only 16% of tenured law school professors are women, the report said.
