Saugus’ Celebration Put on Hold by Burbank, 3-1
Santiago Giangrasso scored two goals as Burbank High upset Saugus, 3-1, Friday at Saugus and prevented the Centurions from clinching the Foothill League boys’ title.
Giangrasso, a senior forward, gave the Bulldogs (11-7-1, 5-3 in league play) a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute before Nate Wright tied the match for Saugus (19-2-2, 6-1-1) with his 27th goal.
Giangrasso scored the match-winner in the 63rd minute and Keith Foenander added a goal in the 70th minute.
Saugus played short-handed after Brian Lombardi was ejected midway through the first half.
Santa Paula 2, Calabasas 1--Hugo Llamas scored in the 49th and 77th minutes to lift the Cardinals (15-2, 8-0) to a come-from-behind victory that earned them a second consecutive Frontier League title at Santa Paula.
Damon Maclaren scored for the Coyotes (13-7, 6-2).
Royal 5, Channel Islands 0--Dan Wilson scored twice as the Highlanders (18-5-2, 9-1-1) routed the Raiders (3-10, 2-9) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.
Simi Valley 2, Camarillo 0--John Gonzalez and Sean Herrity scored as the Pioneers (17-4-3, 8-3) blanked the Scorpions (10-6-3, 4-6-1) in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.
Kennedy 2, Taft 1--Santiago Carbajal scored the tie-breaking goal in the 68th minute for the Golden Cougars (10-5-6, 4-4-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.
Cleveland 1, Granada Hills 0--Douglas Gonzalez scored for the Cavaliers (10-2-3, 6-2-3) in the 10th minute of a Northwest Valley Conference match at Cleveland.
Chatsworth 2, El Camino Real 1--Michael Preis scored twice for the Chancellors (8-8-2, 6-4-1), including the tiebreaker with two minutes left in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.
GIRLS
Hart 3, Valencia 0--Erin Misaki scored in the first half and Mandy Stupar and Laura Qualls scored in the second as the Indians (14-3-3, 6-1-1) maintained their Foothill League lead at Valencia.
Saugus 1, Burbank 1--Jenny Ridnor scored in the first half for the Centurions (6-4-6, 3-2-3) before Molly Raine scored for the Bulldogs (7-7-4, 2-2-4) in a Foothill League match at Burbank.
La Reina 6, Oak Park 0--Maria Bueschen scored three goals and her sister, Alicia, added two for the Regents (12-3-4, 5-0-2) in a Tri-Valley League match at La Reina.
Canyon 2, Burroughs 0--Jaime Knott and Amber Pedersen scored in the second half for the Cowboys (7-10-2, 5-1-2) in a Foothill League match at Burroughs.
Alemany 3, Louisville 0--Stacey Brenner scored twice for the Indians (10-14, 3-4) in a Mission League match at Alemany.
Chaminade 5, Notre Dame 2--Kerrie Clavadetscher scored twice for the Eagles (14-8-2, 5-2-1) in a Mission League match at Notre Dame.
Melissa Rubey scored twice for the Knights (8-9-3, 2-4-2)
Thousand Oaks 3, Agoura 2--Kristi Nakamura scored twice for the Lancers (16-2-1, 10-1) in the Marmonte League victory at Thousand Oaks.
