Moorpark Defeats Oxnard in Overtime Despite Johnson’s 46 Points

Tim Nunnery scored six of his 26 points in the final two minutes of regulation as the Moorpark College men’s basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit, forced overtime and defeated Oxnard, 84-82, Saturday night in a Western State Conference North Division game at Moorpark.

The Raiders (13-14, 4-2 in division play) jumped out early in overtime and held off the Condors (2-21, 0-6), who got 46 points from Amiri Johnson.

William Nunnery had 21 points, Brady Mertes had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Rowan Pearson added 19 rebounds for the Raiders.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Ventura 98, Cuesta 49--Marina Torres had 18 points, seven steals and five assists, and Cindy Jenson added 16 points off the bench for the Pirates (26-0, 6-0) in a WSC North Division game at Ventura.

Oxnard 56, Moorpark 55--Corey Phillips, with 26 points, had nearly half the Raider total in a WSC North Division game at Moorpark.

MEN’S TRACK

Northern Arizona 65, CS Northridge 57; Northridge 82, New Mexico 42; Northridge 78, Southern Utah 41--Sophomore James Lincoln won the high jump and freshman Billy Bush took the shotput for Northridge in the four-team indoor meet at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Northridge also won the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:23.68.

WOMEN’S TRACK

Northern Arizona 74, CS Northridge 36; Northridge 70, New Mexico 37; Northridge 70, Southern Utah 30--Senior Tamika Bradfield won at 200 meters and placed second in the 55, and junior Beth Burton added runner-up finishes in the shotput and 20-pound weight throw for Northridge in an indoor meet at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Bradfield timed 25.83 in the 200 and 7.20 in the 55.

BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 11, Redlands 1--Richard Bell, a junior left-hander from Agoura, recorded 13 strikeouts in seven innings and the Kingsmen (1-0-1) breezed in the second-round game in the Redlands tournament.

Bell had two strikeouts in every inning he worked except for the third.
