Seeking to strengthen its marketing operations, the Los Angeles Times on Monday announced new executive appointments and a realignment of several marketing departments.

Janis Heaphy, vice president of advertising, has been promoted to the new position of senior vice president of advertising. Jeffrey S. Klein, currently president of the newspaper’s Valley and Ventura County editions and a company vice president, has been promoted to the new position of senior vice president for consumer marketing.

In her new post, Heaphy, 44, will oversee the advertising sales, operations and marketing functions of the newspaper. She is responsible for all Times advertising sales, including retail, classified and national, which total more than $800 million in revenue annually.

In his new position, Klein, 42, will be responsible for The Times’ consumer marketing, communications and community affairs departments and will also direct business operations at the paper’s regional editions in Orange County, Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley. Klein will continue his duties as president and chief executive of California Community News, a Times Mirror subsidiary that publishes several small newspapers.

No replacement has been named to fill the position of president of the Valley and Ventura County editions. Judy Sweeney, president of the Orange County Edition, will report to Klein.

“By naming two senior executives to oversee our advertiser and reader marketing functions, we are concentrating our marketing approaches across the company to grow these two important franchises for the future,” said Richard T. Schlosberg III, Times publisher and chief executive.

Mike Rose, who was president and chief executive of Times Mirror Multimedia and has most recently served as vice president of consumer marketing for The Times, is leaving the company to pursue new career interests.

“Mike has made significant contributions to The Times, most notably his recent reorganization of our consumer marketing department into a streamlined, consumer-focused division,” Schlosberg said. “He has completed some important work while here and will be missed.”

Bob Brisco, vice president for advertising marketing and strategic planning, has been named vice president of marketing and new-business development. In addition to being responsible for advertising marketing, strategic planning and new-business operations, Brisco, 32, will also assume responsibility for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. Jesse Levine, the Syndicate’s president, will report to Brisco.
