Volleyball Court Poses No Threat
We have lived at the foot of Pittsfield Lane for more than 15 years, less than 50 yards from the site of the neighborhood-built volleyball court. We are not players, but we feel the attitude that “we know what’s best for you” shown by the Ventura County Parks Department’s decision to remove it is bureaucratic arrogance.
The posts were planted and the net put in place at no cost to the taxpayers. There is no threat to public safety, there are portable restrooms half a block away at the end of Seward, and most of the players live in the neighborhood and use their own facilities.
Councilwoman Rosa Lee Measures’ concern about liability doesn’t make sense. But if it is realistic, then the only safe course would be to ban everyone from the beach. Would she support that?
