In other men’s games:
Saddleback 81, Golden West 60--Anthony Carter scored 20 points and had 10 assists for Saddleback (24-4, 12-1), which clinched a tie for the conference championship. The Gauchos need to beat Riverside at home Friday to win the championship outright.
David Drakeford added 19 points and Roderick Beavers scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Rod Scheuerman led Golden West (13-20, 3-10) with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Riverside 105, Fullerton 91--Dwayne Richardson scored 25 points and Sean White added 24 as Riverside (28-5, 11-2) rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit.
Damon Smith made seven three-pointers and finished with 26 points for Fullerton (7-22, 0-13). Teammate Eric Morgan had 24 points and nine rebounds and Ty Berry added 21 points.
Irvine Valley 68, Cypress 67--Matt Moore scored 15 points and Josh Porter 13 for fifth-place Irvine Valley (15-15, 6-7). Cypress (13-17, 5-8) was led by Jeff Rutter with 16 points and Shane Miller with 15.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:
Riverside 80, Fullerton 61--Alicia Rubio scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead Riverside (24-8, 9-4). Lupie Janos scored 18 for Fullerton (14-15, 6-7) and Michelle deBruijn added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Saddleback 92, Golden West 62--Cha-Ron Walker had 23 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and four steals for Saddleback (26-0, 13-0). The Gauchos went on a 21-2 run midway through the first half to take a 26-6 lead. Shanna Renken added 19 points and Maureen Skehan had 13 for Saddleback. Nancy Love and Blythe Linsey each scored 14 for Golden West (17-14, 7-6).
Irvine Valley 75, Cypress 51--Dyanna Hatch scored 13 points for host Irvine Valley (22-7, 8-5).
In nonconference baseball:
Cypress 7, Fresno City 2--Brian Flanagan and Lance Williams hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning and Ara Petrosian allowed two runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings for host Cypress (9-2).
Orange Coast 4, Palomar 0--Jason Liuzzi, Bryan Moore and Ryan Evans combined on a five-hitter for visiting Orange Coast (8-0). Liuzzi didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning and pitched seven scoreless innings to extend his streak to 13 scoreless innings in a row.
In nonconference golf:
Palomar 385, Orange Coast 403, Mt. Sac 407--Eric Barnett shot a four-over 76 for OCC at El Prado. Palomar’s Eric Lippert (70) was the medalist.
In nonconference softball:
Fullerton 2, Antelope Valley 0--Pinch-hitter Lynette Velasquez drove in Kristy Osborne with a single in the bottom of the sixth for host Fullerton (5-0). Kristy Bonwell earned the victory and Osborne pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
Golden West 10, Chaffey 3--Staci Byers had four hits and three RBIs and Kellie Woodall and Jenny Hart allowed only one hit and no earned runs for visiting Golden West (2-0).
Orange Coast 1, Grossmont 0--Jennifer Long’s first-inning single drove in Carmen Lucatero from second with the only run. Anne Hardey pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for Orange Coast (2-1).
Saddleback 10, El Camino 2--Treva Whitaker scored two runs and had a double for host Saddleback. Christy Journell also scored two runs and Misty Thompson had two RBIs for the Gauchos (4-2).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Palomar 0--Morgan Coberly had 27 assists and 10 digs in the season opener for Orange Coast (1-0). Kevin Reid had 17 kills and Mike Pixler added 14 for the Pirates.
