Apple, Motorola to Announce Licensing Pact: The two companies, in a joint teleconference Monday, are expected to announce that Motorola Inc. will license Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Computer Inc.’s Macintosh software operation system. But analyst Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies International in San Jose stressed that Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola would use the Mac software only on its line of high-powered workstations and had no intention of becoming a general-purpose vendor of Mac clones. Bajarin also said he believes that Motorola on Monday will discuss the production and availability of some key Power PC microprocessors, which are used in the Macintosh and have been in short supply.
