Fire Guts Apartment, Damages Three Others
COSTA MESA — Four families were left homeless Thursday night when a fire broke out in an apartment complex, gutting one unit and causing smoke damage to three others. No injuries were reported.
The blaze apparently started about 7 p.m. in the kitchen of one of the units at a fourplex at 2872 La Salle Ave. Officials were still investigating the cause, Fire Battalion Chief Ken Soltis said Friday. The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to one of the units, he said.
The Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross is providing lodging to the five adults and three children who lived in the complex.
The 22 firefighters who responded to the blaze had it contained it within 20 minutes, Soltis said.
