SMILING HIGH: She turned 13 on Friday, but instead of celebrating, Katrina Mumaw gave another little girl a unique present--a ride on the Goodyear blimp. An amateur pilot since she was 8, Katrina arranged the flight for 7-year-old Chelsey Thomas of Palmdale, who recently underwent surgery to correct a disorder that prevents her from smiling. . . . “It’s unexplainable,” Katrina said when asked to explain her generosity.
NEW HOME: With membership booming at many Santa Clarita churches, the city’s oldest Jewish synagogue finally has a permanent home (B1). . . . Two months ago, Congregation Beth Shalom moved to a hillside spot in the center of town.
SEEKING DEATH: It was a grisly crime by anyone’s measure: two women stabbed to death atop a Universal CityWalk parking structure on Mother’s Day last year. Authorities believe the pair killed Carasi’s mother and former girlfriend because of a custody battle over Carasi’s son.
BUSTED: With his Armenian Russian uncle facing 15 charges of credit card fraud and burglary, 24-year-old Saak Dishchyan showed up at Newhall Municipal Court this week and gallantly offered his services as a translator. Instead, a convenience store clerk identified him as the uncle’s alleged accomplice. . . . Now Dishchyan has pleaded not guilty to nine felony counts of his own.
