What’s This, Good News in the Sports Section?
There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. But we all learned that a picture sometimes needs a thousand words.
Julie Cart’s Feb. 9 article on Michael Chang is a good example of the latter. She spotted an inconsistency in a picture of a world of tennis groups and looked into the scene behind the picture.
In her article, she didn’t suppose, didn’t theorize and didn’t judge. I shall root for Mr. Chang with a touch more gusto from now on.
Congratulations on excellent writing.

What a breath of fresh air on the sports page--Thomas Bonk’s Feb. 13 article about local golf professionals Randy Peterson and Brad Sherfy. These two young men contribute daily in a positive fashion to the game of golf and sports in general.
Does anyone care about which pro athlete has AIDS or which one has been banned for life seven times for use of illegal drugs? Put that garbage in the Metro section.
Thanks to Thomas Bonk for finding the real sports world. Can you imagine if more of this positive reporting caught on?
