Canyon Shooters Burn Oxnard
Louis Moore scored 19 points and Ruben Castaneda added 17 as Canyon High defeated Oxnard, 69-48, Friday night in the first round of the Division I-A basketball playoffs at Canyon High.
Moore, who made six of nine field-goal attempts and seven of eight free throws, scored 12 of his points in the first half when Canyon (17-9) made 12 of 20 shots, including eight of 10 in the first quarter.
The Cowboys’ hot shooting helped them to an early 11-point lead and they were never caught. Oxnard (14-10) did not get closer than six points after the first quarter.
Castaneda was quiet in the first half, making only one of three shots. He scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.
For Oxnard, Ross Randolph scored 13 points and Charles Erving had 11.
