Ex-President of Anaheim Card Company Dies at 80
James MacAdam Day, former president of an Anaheim greeting card company, died Feb. 18 in Sacramento from complications of diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. He was 80.
Day, a former Tustin resident, served as president of Buzza Cardoza Greeting Cards from 1961 to 1971. The company was absorbed by a larger corporation in the 1970s.
Born and raised in Detroit, Day moved to Orange County from Boston in 1961.
His community work here included serving as president of both Big Brothers of Orange County and the Friends of UCI, a foster alumni group. He later became president of Brown and Bigelow, a large print company in St. Paul, Minn.
While at Brown, he declined an invitation from President Richard Nixon to serve as head of the U.S. Printing Office because of commitments to his company’s pending expansion.
He retired in 1981 and lived in Walnut Grove, near Sacramento.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their children: Donna Westerman of Newport Beach, Lucy Day of Davis and James Day Jr. of Courtland, as well as four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. March 2 at the Presbyterian Church of Walnut Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.
