In nonconference baseball:

Long Beach State 6, Washington State 2--Rocky Biddle gave up four hits and struck out 12 over 7 2/3 innings to lead Long Beach State (7-5). Teammate Jeff Tagliaferri had two hits and two RBIs for the 49ers.

In nonconference softball:

Chapman 4, UC Riverside 3--Jessamine Maiben hit an RBI double in the third inning for Chapman. Maiben, batting .688 on the season, also added an RBI single in the first. In an earlier game, pinch runner Alice Williams scored the game-winning run for Chapman in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch by Riverside’s Renee Chavez. On the mound for Chapman (5-1), Christy Guidorizzi (4-0) threw a no-hitter, striking out eight.

Concordia 11, UCSD 3--Cynthia Molleman had two hits and four RBIs for Concordia (6-7), which had 14 hits. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Eagles connected for 15 hits, defeating the Tritons, 14-5. Salena Foudreault went three for three, with two RBIs and three runs scored for Concordia.

At the Big West Swim Championship:

UC Irvine men place fourth--UC Irvine’s David Durden placed second in the men’s 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.66. UNLV’s Peter Buss won the race (1:51.24).

The Anteaters finished in fourth place overall.

UC Santa Barbara captured its 18th consecutive conference championship.

In the women’s competition, Gwen Yoshizumi of UC Irvine finished sixth in the 200 backstroke in 2:05.73. The Anteaters finished ninth with 192 points.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Track and Field:

Three Long Beach State track athletes qualify--Jaime Barragan, Le’Gretta Hinds and Lewis Young all ran times at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships good enough to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championship Meet, March 8-9 in Indianapolis.

Barragan won the 55-meter dash in 6.28. A three-time All-American, Hinds qualified in the 55 hurdles (7.92). Young, a freshman, qualified in the 400 (47.43).
