World IN BRIEF : SOUTH KOREA : Chun Goes on Trial on Bribery Charges

Former South Korean President Chun Doo Hwan appeared in court today to face charges of bribery. Dressed in a prison smock, Chun appeared before a three-judge panel at the Seoul District Criminal Court along with five former aides and denied accepting bribes from business people, calling money he accepted political donations. Chun was indicted last month and charged with accepting about $282 million in bribes during his 1980-88 tenure.
