Enough to Keep You on Your Feet
If you’re not a runner, there are still plenty of low-impact festivities to join off the L.A. Marathon route. The L.A. Marathon Quality of Life Expo begins today, noon-8 p.m., and continues Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., at the L.A. Convention Center. The show emphasizes health and fitness, ecology and travel. Food, entertainment. Free. Parking, $6. Also today, a kick-off reception runs 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Gallery at 777 S. Figueroa St., spotlighting marathon art.
On Saturday, the Pancake Breakfast Run gets underway at 8:30 a.m. from downtown’s Pershing Square. Children’s games and other activities.
Marathon day (Sunday) gets underway in Hollywood with the annual bike tour--led by Mayor Richard Riordan on wheels--beginning at 6 a.m. Hollywood marks Mile 17 of the L.A. Marathon (kicking off at 8:45 a.m.), where rock ‘n’ roll bands begin playing at 9 a.m. The Hollywood Farmers Market is relocating for the day from Ivar Avenue to Hollywood Boulevard, between Orange and La Brea. A marathon brunch is scheduled at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel nearby, with great seats for race spectators (benefits the Hollywood Entertainment Museum). Information: (213) 462-2355.
Farther down the race route, a marathon party is planned at the L.A. Children’s Museum, 310 N. Main St. (at Mile 25). You and your kids can view the race live and on big-screen TV. Breakfast foods, projects and programs with a marathon theme are included in the admission: $2.62 (10 cents per mile). 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (213) 687-8800.
