Obituaries : Roger T. White; Finance Lawyer, War Veteran
Roger T. White, a Korean War veteran and retired bank finance lawyer, died of bone-marrow cancer at his Port Hueneme home Saturday. He was 64.
Born in River Falls, Wis., White attended several colleges around the country, eventually receiving his bachelor’s degree from River Falls State.
He served in the Korean War from 1954 to 1955 as a court reporter under Gen. Maxwell Taylor’s command.
After the war, he earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin, where he met his wife, Madeline. He spent his summers working for the government in Alaska, blowing up beaver dams so that salmon could reach their spawning grounds upriver.
“It was a time in his life that he really savored,” Madeline White said. “He was an old woodsman at heart.
The couple moved to California in 1960 and lived in Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Santa Monica and Port Hueneme.
White worked for several companies, including United California Bank and First Interstate Bank.
“Roger was quietly lively and a loyal, loving, gentle man,” Madeline said.
White is also survived by his son, Thomas Lawrence White of Goleta, and daughters Meredith Ford of San Diego and Susan A. White of Santa Rosa.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at All Saints Memorial Garden under the care of Guardian Memorial Funeral Directors and Crematory of Oxnard.
