SANTA ANA — The body of a newborn baby was discovered in a garbage bin behind a medical clinic Saturday, and police were searching for the child’s parents.
The body of the infant boy was found just after 9 a.m. by a man rummaging through the trash behind the Centro Medic 2000 Family Clinic in the 800 block of West 17th Street, police said.
“The child appeared to be a newborn, possibly a stillborn,” Lt. Bob Chavez said. “There was no identifying information on the child or at the scene.”
Chavez said detectives from the department’s child abuse unit are investigating the case as a possible homicide, pending the outcome of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The Orange County coroner’s office will conduct the autopsy today, an official said.
Anyone with information about the child or the whereabouts of his parents is asked to call Investigator Julio Jaramillo at (714) 647-5162 or Investigator David Valentin at (714) 647-5031.
