PIG OWNER FACES TRIAL
The South Pasadena owner of a potbellied pig will go on trial in June for walking her pet porker Tulip without a leash after the district attorney’s office on Tuesday refused a request to dismiss the case.
“[Gil] Garcetti couldn’t win O.J. [Simpson] and Snoop Doggy Dogg maybe because he’s spending all his time prosecuting pigs,” said Robert Marcus, attorney for Kalyn Baker, the owner of Tulip.
A June 4 trial date was set by Pasadena Municipal Judge Elvira Mitchell after a prosecutor and Marcus were unable to strike a deal to resolve the charges that Baker allowed Tulip to “run at large” in South Pasadena twice last year in violation of local law.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Amy Suehiro offered to dismiss the case if Baker would attend a prosecutor’s hearing where she would agree not to walk Tulip unleashed again or face the existing charges and a new charge.
Hogwash, said Marcus. “This is a dog leash law. It simply doesn’t apply to potbellied pigs,” he said.
