UC Irvine Men in Tennis Regional

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team will compete in the NCAA Region VIII tournament May 10-12 in Las Vegas.

The Anteaters (14-10) are seeded No. 8 and will meet top-seeded Pepperdine in a first-round match May 10 on the Nevada Las Vegas campus. Winner of the single-elimination tournament advances to the NCAA championships in Athens, Ga.

Irvine competed in its first regional last year, beating Washington and losing to California. The Anteaters have appeared four times in the NCAA championships, most recently in 1990.

In the latest ITA/Rolex rankings, Irvine is No. 30 and Pepperdine is No. 8. Marc Tardif entered the singles rankings for the first time at No. 86. Tardif and Julian Foxon are ranked No. 42 in doubles.

Tardif earned All-Big West first-team singles honors, and Foxon and Steve Tallakson earned second-team honors. In doubles, Tallakson and Cameran Lindee were first-team selections and Tardif and Foxon second-team picks.

Other first-round matches on Friday: Cal (seeded No. 4) plays Nevada Las Vegas (No. 5), Arizona (No. 2) plays UC Santa Barbara (No. 7) and Arizona State (No. 3) plays Washington (No. 6).
