Things went well for the Richard Mandella stable when the boss was out of town and nothing changed when he returned Sunday from Kentucky.

The day after the barn won three times at Hollywood Park, including the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap with Siphon, Supercilious continued the roll with a come-from-behind victory in the $107,100 Railbird Stakes.

A California-bred filly who couldn’t get close to heavily favored Raw Gold when they met in the Santa Paula a month earlier at Santa Anita, Supercilious turned the tables Sunday.

Well off the early pace under Corey Nakatani, the 9-1 shot split horses in the stretch to win going away. The margin at the end of her 1:22 2/5 seven furlongs was 1 3/4 lengths over another outsider, 11-1 shot Tiffany Diamond.

Raw Gold, who was perfect in three previous starts at Hollywood Park and the 4-5 choice Sunday, stumbled coming out of the gate, put away the pacesetting Tanja, drew clear, then weakened late to be beaten by 3 1/2 lengths.

Supercilious has won four of 11 lifetime and three of her last four.

Fastness, who hasn’t run since a record-setting performance in the Citation Handicap late last year, was given highweight of 122 pounds for the $125,000 Inglewood Handicap on Sunday.

Trainer Jenine Sahadi hasn’t committed the 6-year-old to the 1 1/16-mile race and she may elect to wait for the $700,000 Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile on June 16.

The Inglewood ‘Cap also could mark the return of Helmsman, who has rested since finishing fourth in the Santa Anita ‘Cap.
