Investigators found chemicals typically used to make methamphetamine at a house on Cerritos Avenue on Monday evening and arrested two men on suspicion of narcotics violations, sheriff’s authorities said.

About 7:30 p.m., sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were summoned to the 8300 block of Cerritos Avenue after receiving information that a possible methamphetamine lab containing explosive materials was located in the area. In a wok, detectives found red phosphorus, which is used in manufacturing the drug and can be explosive, Fire Capt. Scott Brown said.

About 50 nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution and were allowed to return home a few hours later, said Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock. No injuries were reported, he said.
