Comment Period on Recycle Plan Extended

Ventura County Planning Department officials will allow the public to comment for one more week on a proposal to convert the grounds of a former egg hatchery near Moorpark into a site for recycling cardboard, concrete and wood.

The applicant--M Maintenance Construction Clean-Up Inc.--wants to use the former Egg City Hatchery on Waters Road, where material would be stockpiled for no more than 120 days before being shipped out to be reused.

The period for accepting public comment on the recycling plant was to expire at the end of the week, but county officials decided to listen for another week after getting numerous complaints from local residents.

The county will now accept comment on the project until May 17.

The Moorpark City Council looked over the proposal in March and forwarded its concerns about truck traffic that would accompany the project.

“We don’t need any more trucks with junk in them on Moorpark Avenue,” Councilwoman Eloise Brown said.

Because the company would use a large grinder to break up pieces of used concrete and Sheetrock, council members also expressed concern about noise and dust.
