City to Fix Stretch of Stanton Ave.
Motorists who travel along Stanton Avenue will have a faster, smoother drive after the completion of an ambitious street improvement later this year.
The City Council on Monday approved the $1.2-million project to repair the major roadway from Page Street to Artesia Boulevard.
Council members said they were especially eager to fill in the infamous dips in the road at 7th Street and Stanton.
“Thank you for getting rid of that,” Councilman Don Griffin said.
Public Works Director Donald K. Jensen told the council that the Stanton Avenue improvement “represents the second-largest project you’ll see this year, the first being the realignment of Dale Street.”
Besides repaving the road, city workers will replace curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway entrances. They will also build a new storm drain from 7th Street and Stanton to Beach Boulevard. Work is to begin in about two months.
Traffic signals where Stanton intersects with Orangethorpe Avenue, Manchester Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue will be modified to ease traffic flow.
