Onsaga Pitches Glendale to Pacific Title

Phil Onsaga pitched a one-hitter Tuesday as Glendale High defeated Pasadena, 6-1, to win the Pacific League title for the first time since 1988.

Onsaga struck out 11 and walked five. Teammate Davey Garley had two hits, including a double.

Crescenta Valley 11, Muir 3--Pitcher Jason La Motte had three hits and three runs batted in at Muir as the Falcons clinched a playoff spot with a third-place finish in the Pacific League.

La Motte (5-4) scattered eight hits and struck out four.

Hart 3, Burbank 2--Chris Wright missed a bunt sign and tripled home Eric Horvat with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth of a Foothill League game at Hart.

Brian Baron had four hits, including a solo home run, and Bob Graves (4-1) pitched the final 4 1/3 innings for the Indians (19-6, 12-2), allowing three hits and striking out seven.

Antelope Valley 7, Palmdale 3--The Antelopes scored five runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 3-2 deficit in a Golden League game at Palmdale (12-12, 4-5).

Antelope Valley’s Sean Douglass (7-3) pitched a six-hitter, striking out seven and walking one. He gave up one earned run.

Highland 25, Littlerock 3--The Bulldogs (8-15, 3-6) pummeled the Lobos (4-12, 0-9) with 26 hits in a Golden League game at Highland.

Jacob Stanwood had four hits and two RBIs, Carlos Chavez had four hits and four RBIs and Joe Maier had three hits and four RBIs for Highland.

Ridgecrest Burroughs 2, Quartz Hill 0--Mark Madsen struck out nine and walked one while allowing three hits and two unearned runs for the Rebels (18-5, 8-1) in a Golden League loss at Burroughs (10-13, 5-4).

Burroughs’ Paul Vallett (1-2) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one.

Alemany 14, Chaminade 12--The Indians (6-14, 4-7) built a 10-3 lead after three innings and held on to upset the Eagles (16-6-1, 7-3-1) in a Mission League game at Alemany.

Sergio Franco had a grand slam in the Indians’ seven-run third inning, Gilbert Salazar added a three-run double in the fifth and finished with four RBIs.

Buena 7, Hueneme 0--David Arroyo (3-4) allowed three hits, struck out six and walked one in six innings as the Bulldogs (16-6, 8-5) romped to a Channel League victory over the Vikings (5-17, 4-9) at Hueneme.

Arroyo, Ricky Helland and Matt Foster each had two hits for Buena.

Ventura 6, Dos Pueblos 4--Corey Kniss (3-2) pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out four and walking one, as the Cougars (10-13, 6-7) beat the Chargers (13-9, 7-6) in a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos.

Aaron Dixon had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs, and Jason Watkins had two hits and an RBI for Ventura.

Nordhoff 3, Santa Paula 1--Jake Crawford hit a two-run double in the fourth and the Rangers (6-16, 4-10) added a squeeze by Ben Harold to score Crawford in a Frontier League upset at Nordhoff.

Crawford (2-1) pitched a four-hitter, striking out two and allowing an unearned run.

Calabasas 20, Malibu 3--Adam Davey had three hits, including two doubles, and seven RBIs, boosting his total to 34, as the Coyotes (18-2-2, 13-0-1) routed the Sharks (6-16, 3-1) in a Frontier League game at Malibu.

Darin Reisman and Josh Goldfield each had two hits and three RBIs, and Brian Fatur had three hits, including a triple, and two stolen bases for Calabasas.

Santa Clara 6, Moorpark 3--Aric Diaz had a two-run single to highlight a six-run fifth inning for the Saints in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.

Vince Herrera (3-1) surrendered nine hits, striking out three and walking one.

Monroe 2, Canoga Park 1--John Ennis (5-6) pitched a three-hitter, striking out nine and walking one, and allowed an unearned run for the Vikings (10-12, 9-6).

Drew Devine singled home the winning run in the sixth.

Poly 3, North Hollywood 1--Jerry Heredia (9-2) allowed two hits, striking out six and walking two in six innings for the Parrots (22-5, 14-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

Sylmar 9, Grant 2--The Spartans (18-5, 13-2) remained a game behind Valley Pac-8 Conference leader Poly with a victory over the Lancers (4-21, 3-12) at Sylmar.

Ralph Velazco (8-1) allowed three hits in six innings and struck out eight. Teammate Mike Flores had four hits and two RBIs.
