Obituaries : * Otto Briscoe; Owned Oil Drilling Company

Otto “Cotton” Briscoe died Wednesday after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 83.

Born in Texas, Briscoe moved to Ventura in 1937 to work in the oil fields. He owned an oil-well drilling business, Malotto Co., until his retirement in 1975.

Briscoe’s interests included hunting, fishing and spending time with friends. He was a 50-year member of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 of Free and Accepted Masons of California.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn, and daughters Linda Leach of Ojai and Doris Scott of Ventura.

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Wells and members of the Poinsettia Lodge officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ventura County chapter of Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders Assn.
