Job Training Program Is Seeking Applicants
The North Valley Occupational Center--Pacoima Skills Center has openings in its Job Training Partnership Act program.
The federally subsidized program, coordinated by the city of Los Angeles’ Community Development Department, provides classroom vocational training in word processing, computer-assisted accounting, office/clerical work, auto mechanics, medical office work and cable television installation.
The program includes free registration, books and materials, and the center’s staff offers employment search assistance following completion of training.
“That’s the main goal of the program--and our whole orientation--to get people ready for work,” said Charlotte Forte-Taylor, the program’s case manager at the center.
Classes begin July 1 and run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the skills center, located at 13545 Van Nuys Blvd.
Program applicants must meet federal income level standards and, if accepted, must attend a minimum of 25 hours of classes weekly, said Forte-Taylor. Financial services, including stipends to pay for child care or public transportation, are available to those who qualify for the program.
For more information, call the center at (818) 896-9558.
