Orange Man, 35, Critically Hurt in Fire at Residence
ORANGE — Authorities are investigating a possible arson that left a 35-year-old man with second- and third-degree burns over 40% of his body when fire engulfed a single-story residence here early Sunday.
Timothy Kane was taken to UCI Medical Center, where a hospital spokeswoman said he was listed in critical condition.
Authorities believe Kane was home with his father, Robert Kane, when the fire started and apparently suffered the burns when he went back into the house to make sure his father was out.
Both men were awakened by smoke detectors.
Firefighters responding to the call at 2:18 a.m. found the single-family house fully ablaze. Twenty-four firefighters brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes.
The fire caused $200,000 in damage to the house and $75,000 to its contents.
