Council Awards 505 Housing Allotments

The Thousand Oaks City Council has awarded 505 housing allotments for six development projects expected to take place this year.

Thousand Oaks has a residential development control measure under which the City Council gives out a fixed number of development allotments each year to make sure city services are not suddenly overburdened. Each year, the city rates projects based on such criteria as their impact on the surrounding environment, accessibility to the handicapped and adherence to zoning standards. Those ratings are then used to determine which developments will receive housing allotments if there is competition.

The base number of allotments for 1996 was 500, but council members Tuesday night transferred 106 unused allotments from 1995, so the city had more allotments than developers were seeking at this time.
