Possible Leak Turns Back ValuJet DC-9
ATLANTA — A ValuJet plane made an unscheduled return to the Atlanta airport Wednesday as a precaution after someone in the airport tower spotted a vapor or liquid coming from the plane.
The plane landed safely and passengers were rerouted onto other flights, said ValuJet spokesman Gregg Kenyon.
Flight 531 departed Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport en route to Tampa, Fla., Kenyon said. It turned back 10 minutes later.
The jet was a DC-9. Another ValuJet DC-9 crashed into the Florida Everglades on Saturday, killing all 110 on board.
It was not immediately determined what the vapor or liquid was.
