Tours to Highlight Museum and Square

Oxnard has the market on sensory sensations cornered this weekend.

To the succulent taste of strawberries at the city’s annual festival, visitors can add the fragrant allure of flowers beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Carnegie Art Museum and Heritage Square downtown.

“Oxnard Spring Tours” combines tours of both sites with flower arrangements created by local florists.

The Carnegie offers several flower-themed art exhibits, including floral oil paintings by Kazuko Knowles and a collection of watercolor portraits. In addition, a show titled “Opening Up! New Floral Watercolors by Susan Petty” will be on display.

There are also a pair of talks about flowers. At noon, Bob Edberg, owner of Limberlost Roses in Van Nuys, will speak on “Old Garden Roses.” At 2 p.m., landscape designer Anita Wood discusses “The Romance of Monet’s Garden.”

Museum docents will provide tours of the exhibits and the 1906 structure at 424 South C St.

Nearby Heritage Square offers guided tours every quarter hour from its visitors center, 715 South A St. Gourmet strawberry desserts will be served amid flower arrangements that will be auctioned off at 4 p.m. A $5 pass allows visitors to browse at both sites.

Proceeds benefit the Oxnard Downtowners and Friends of Heritage Square.
