Burned Man Claims He Was Set Afire
A 19-year-old man who suffered second-degree burns to his face and arms Saturday told police his drinking companions set him afire, Los Angeles police said.
The man, identified by police as Minor Gutierrez, said he was doused with lighter fluid and set ablaze about 3:30 a.m. He called a friend 30 minutes later, asking to be driven to the hospital, said Sgt. Brett Papworth.
Gutierrez was taken to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, then transferred to County-USC Medical Center. Papworth said Gutierrez could neither remember who set him ablaze nor where the attack occurred.
